So today it is once again Blog Action day with this years theme being Climate Change. We’re pleased as it was the theme we voted for because, we may not have metioned this before, but we do love our eco-friendly world at PoLR!

Anyway, to keep the theme related to PoLR we decided to put together a selection of eco-friendly business card ideas for those of you who want to do your bit for the environment but go a little further than just using recycled papers.

Online Business Card

Why not put everything online? With online business card sites you can upload all your contact details, a bio and link all your social media accounts in one place so anyone finding your card can connect with you in several different locations. You could always buy your name as a domain name and point it to your online card so it’s easy for your contacts to find and remember.

If you fancy trying out an online card then here are two to try:

Text Business Card

Hate having loads of paper cards lying around your office? Never away from your mobile? Then how about texting your business card instead? It’s fast, eco-friendly and will be harder to lose than a small bit of paper! Also, if you are at a conference or event then it’s more likely to stick in someone’s head as it’s (at this point) still so underused.

We suggest Contxts or Textid if you fancy giving it a whirl.

Multi-use Business Card

Last but not least of our suggestions are business cards that have more than one function. For example, you could create your buiness card as a small envelope and fill it with seeds or how about a living business card that starts to sprout on contact with water?

Unique and Recycled Cards

Depending on the buiness you are in these may or may not be suitable! How about getting a custom made stamp and using it to brand up scrap paper for funky and individual ‘cards’? Or make it a real talking point by using natural materials such as tree bark or a leaf?

One Generic Card

If you are set on keeping a traditional style business card then there are still ways you could cut down on wastage. For example, what about a generic contact card with office contact details only? If someone leaves or their details change then you will not be inthe situation of having to dispose of unused cards. Of course it goes without saying that recycled materials are probably the preferable option if you’re reading this!
