Will the tabloids have to get ‘nicer’?

When my Fiance told me Lance Armstrong was Twittering from on ‘the Tour’ I was really impressed. ‘Really!?’ I said ‘from the actual tour?’ at my surprise he said ‘errr, yeah…why?’ ‘Well’ I said ‘surely it must affect his time if he has to steer with just one hand…’

WordPress 2.8 – I Like!

When I logged into this blog the other day and saw that there was a WordPress upgrade available a few things crossed my mind. Firstly I thought “Excellent, I wonder what new features it has?” and secondly, I wondered “If I upgrade will it mess up my site?”

Obviously I want to keep everything as current as possible but I was worried that by upgrading it would render some of my plugins inoperable (in that “this plugin has not been tested with your version” way). Read more…

Wolfram Alpha – cool name but what does it do?

You may have heard of a new Google competitor that’s new to the search market in the form of Wolframalpha.com Let’s clear that up. It’s not a search engine in the traditional sense. If you search for an edinburgh restaurant or a bed shop it is not going to return anything at all. Read more…

Google adds more options tab

As well as restoring the shopping tab to the main options bar on Google they have also added a show options link at the top of search results. It has some pretty cool features. You can choose to sift through videos, forums and reviews as well as time based results. There is also a pretty nifty search option called the wonder wheel.

The end of the advertising free ride?

Advertisers have been paying for and subsidising our media for years. Television ads pay for our tv and radio (apart from the draconian BBC) and magazines and newspapers cost less because of the adverts within.
