Digital 2011 Conference in Glasgow’s SECC
Yesterday myself and Calum headed along to the SECC for Digital 2011. It’s a 2 day conference (though day 2 is invitation only) which consists of seminars, workshops, networking opportunities and a healthy dose of coffee drinking and eating.
The first part consisted of 3 talks followed by a Q&A session then 3 further talks followed by another Q&A session. Speakers at these sessions were as follows.
Analyst overview of the digital media and creative sectors – Douglas McCabe, Enders Analysis
Business models in self-publishing digital games – Nicholas Lovell, GamesBrief
Transforming a publishing business into a world class digital player – Tim Collins, Commercial Director, DC Thomson
Creating value from content with social media – Andrew Girdwood, Media Innovations Director, Big Mouth Media
Creative value from content with crowdfunding – Ed Whiting, We Did This
The Transition from Broadcaster to Digital Media Business – Bobby Hain, Director of Channels, STV
Being the fan of facts that I am, I was particularly interested in Douglas McCabes presentation – slide after slide of good, hard facts
Developing and Monetising Audiences
Grant Whiteside, Technical Director, Amber Green
Both Calum and I really enjoyed this workshop. Grant’s presenting style was fun and engaging and the examples he used provided a good degree of amusement at times. It was also interesting for us to hear from such a big player in Search Marketing. For my personal blogging point of view it was interesting (and slightly alarming) to hear his recommendation of only having 15% of a monetised website with advertising on it…might have to rejig that blog of mine…maybe!
Protecting Your IP and Merchandising Law
Andy Harris, MMS
Donald Boyd, Campbell Dallas
The seminars and workshops were followed by a Networking Dinner and finally the Digital Content Showcase where companies had the opportunity to take 5 minutes to tell us about their company/product etc.
It was great to meet up with so many new and old (!) faces and we particularly enjoyed socialising after the meal with @kate_wooding, @wemakesense and @markjwallace to name a few.
The seminars were transmitted as a live broadcast which can be viewed here: http://www.livestream.com/envirodigital
