On the first day of christmas Google searched for me, Steve Coogan in a pear tree
Ok, ok, so this is possibly the most lame attempt yet to inject Christmas cheer into a non-Christmas blog post but as it’s almost upon us I thought it was worth a try to get the few remaining Scrooge’s around the office in the Christmas spirit.
So to get down to business (and explain the vague tie up between the post and the blog title) let me explain the tie-in.
Google has recently published its year-end Zeitgeist which shows what Google users have been searching for during 2008. While we won’t be publishing the list in full ourselves (you can find it here) we thought it would be fun to compare the turn of this century’s top 10 rising results with 2008′s.
2001 Searches
With the turning of the century a few of the results are predictable for example, Nostradamus and windows xp. This was the time when computer engineers were raking it in with everybody and his dog worried about the ‘millennium bug’ so no surprises that it was top if the list.
Again, Septermber the 11th will account for the likes of CNN, world trade center, anthrax, osama bin laden and the taliban searches but what may I ask, is ‘loft story’? Seems it’s a French adaption of the reality programme ‘Big Brother’.
2008 Searches
Moving on up the years, how does this compare to 2008? The searches seem to be just as varied though there is still a heavy weight towards one type of site – currently social networking.
So how does the Steve Coogan blog title fit in? Number 5 in the top 10 hottest ticket searched of 2008 that’s how.
