Email – Are you missing a marketing trick?

I was in the market for a holiday recently and standing in a local shop I saw an advert for a local travel agent. At the risk of sounding like someone out of the League of Gentlemen, I always like to buy local where possible so I looked closer for a website and shop location.

And that’s where I thought ‘EH’..?

Looking on the advert there was a website and an office but the e-mail address was a Yahoo address. This tiny point was enough to make me question (in quick succession) :

  1. The size of the company (was my money safe, what if the holday went wrong)
  2. The professionalism (You wouldn’t catch Kuoni using a Yahoo account for business!)

The part I didn’t get was that the company had a website and had gone to the effort of getting a page up so why was the same not extended to the e-mail? To me it is missing a chance to get your company name infront of thousands of people a year through simply sending emails.

It really can be used at every opportunity whether at work or at play to raise awareness of your company and get your company name out there. The number of times I have received an email and without having a URL in the body of the email, resorted to using the email to find out more (taking everything from after the @ sign). With a good, informative e-mail signature, you’ll also maximise the message you put infront of each of your email receipients.

So if you currently have a website and aren’t making use of an associated email address then maybe it’s time to think again. As per my original reason for writing this blog, that one simple, small step was enough to lose that travel company the lead and potentially a sale. Sometimes it’s the small things!
