My first week at PoLR – Sophia Schwan

Written by | February 5th, 2009

Sophia SchwanHi! My name is Sophia and I am a third year student at RGU in Aberdeen studying Publishing with Journalism. For my course, I am completing a 6 week work experience placement at PoLR in Glasgow.

My first week (and three days) have been great at PoLR. I have been able to really develop my marketing skills further and apply what I have learned at university.

During the first week I learned about SEO and some of the tricks used to get your website on the first page of Google. I learned about different codes and how it feels to sit in a business meeting with free sandwiches!

My knowledge of search engine optimisation was completely basic, or possibly even less than that. I got a really good insight into everything and sadly even want to check if my SEO client’s website has gone up in Google, getting really excited if it has.

The task of thinking about a marketing campaign for PoLR offline gives me quite a large amount of freedom concerning creativity boundaries and responsibility, which is something I really didn’t expect (and was a bit worried about). It has really allowed me to think creatively and outside the box while at the same time making me also consider the viability of an idea and to think a few steps ahead when it comes to how it could be implemented.

Overall its been a really great and satisfying start for me and hopefully for everyone else as well.
