RotW : Kleptomania
Kleptomania – Neil MacDougall
I actually have Kleptomania , don’t worry when it gets bad I take something for it.
Domain name kleptomania – Lynne Foster
Domain name disputes are topical at the moment due to the first criminal prosecution for domain name theft being in the news. It’s an issue that raises it’s ugly head time and time again and is often due to the desire for selling it on at an extortionate rate. However, I’ve come across a new version (new to me anyway) – Domain name kleptomania. Let me explain, I know someone just now with a domain name issue. They registered their domain and put it in the hands of a professional (?) web design company. When they moved companies the owner of the previous one kept the domain and refused to hand it back. In this case though, they don’t even seem to have the desire to sell it back to the customer, in fact, they seem to just want to keep it for the annoyance factor – A domain name kleptomaniac?
High St Kleptomania vs Internet Kleptomania – Ryan Carlton
When the internet become financially lucrative (which it obviously already has) then security over your online assets becomes just as important as your offline assets. Having to secure your online shop as best as you can is a given. What about the other aspects of internet ownership that you have to protect from Kleptomania? Well, quite recently domain theft has been in the news, people are being prosecuted for that… so perhaps the authorities are seeing these online acts of theft, as much as an issue, these days, as a bag snatch at a fancy boutique!
One song, two song, three song, floor… – Lisa Robin
Now , I am not suggesting that we all act on our impulses because as you can imagine this frame of mind would lead to utter anarchy. But, can we say that the internet does not offer us that juicy apple of temptation? In what way I hear you cry? Well think about it, Pirate Bay, Limewire, iso-torrent all these websites have been at one point or another been guilty of trying to tempt us into making an illegal download a little free song or album here or a full series of The Sopranos. Who can truly say they have not been tempted to do this, which when you think about it is tantamount to stealing. This could even lead onto an underlying compulsion, sitting at your desk with your hand hovering over the download now button in the grips of a cold sweat. Also, what if you do indulge evidently as many people have could they now be described as being on the top of that slippery slide down into the cold pool of kleptomania?
*Polr does not in any way endorse illegal downloading*

Keyword Kleptomania – Calum Macleod
Kleptomania is a disorder which gives people a compulsion to steal small things even if they have little or no value. If you acquire the right kind of small things though, you can add them up into something better than its parts. It’s a strategy I’d endorse for optimising an ecommerce site. There are hundreds and thousands of keyword variations relevant to a large site with has lots of products. Although there are far less people who will search for “cheap kitchen fitter near city centre glasgow” than “kitchen fitter glasgow” a search for the former (if optimised for) has more chance of giving the searcher what they’re looking for. While being of little value on their own, these long tail keywords can all add up to bring in lots of traffic that will lead to conversions.
