1800 Flowers – First store to sell through Facbook Apps

1800 Flowers has recently added a new dimension to it’s Facebook page – the ability to purchase their services (in this case flowers) via their Facebook app. Users can browse the bouquets for sale, purchase and send all from within Facebook (and without having to visit the 1800 Flowers website). Once you are on their page you will notice a tab called Shop! click on that and you can start shopping.Read more…

When my Fiance told me Lance Armstrong was Twittering from on ‘the Tour’ I was really impressed. ‘Really!?’ I said ‘from the actual tour?’ at my surprise he said ‘errr, yeah…why?’ ‘Well’ I said ’surely it must affect his time if he has to steer with just one hand…’

User Generated Search

Search has been somewhat traditional for the last ten years. If you need to find a site you go to a search engine and type in some keywords and get shown a selection of sites. This model is coming under increasing threat from user generated sites such as facebook and twitter. The premise is that there will come a day when search services will be delivered to us via our friends and contacts through social media sites instead of from an all seeing algorithm at search engine HQ.Read more…

DotW : A Message from Earth

Our diamond of the week takes the form of a marketing stunt by Bebo and RDF Digital. They decided to get a group together with the aim of sending 500 messages into space towards Gliese 581c. The idea is that any inhabitants of this planet will receive, understand and reply to the message in the lifespan of the Bebo contributors (2050). The message was beamed off in October 2008 and has 119 trillion miles to travel – so about 20 years (just shy of the time it takes to travel from Junction 26 to 16 of the M8 in rush hour).Read more…
