Glasgow Caledonian University – E-commerce

We commissioned PoLR to produce an e-commerce cart that was easy to use and would allow us to sell CPD courses online to companies throughout the UK. PoLR were flexible in their approach, often going over and beyond what was asked of them. Communication was great between PoLR and both the Glasgow Caledonian University departments and other external contractors (no easy task!) which resulted in a build that was efficient, on time and on budget. We're extremely pleased with the look and feel of the new site which sits alongside the main University site very well and we're looking forward to seeing it working for us.

PoLR were delighted to be selected as the web design company that were going to bring Glasgow Caledonian's Online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Academy online as part of the School of Engineering and Built Environment.

Today was launch day for Glasgow Caledoninan online CPD Academy which offers businesses the chance to allow their staff to partake in professional development courses without having to travel to university to fulfil them.

“The GCU Online CPD Academy was established in response to feedback from firms who were concerned that staff were missing out on vital Continuous Professional Development opportunities due to work commitments.”

PoLR provided the e-commerce platform to enable the online CPD Academy to offer it's courses on a 'pay-as-you-go' basis with courses beginning from £25. This e-commerce cart was also developed to offer video downloads as part of the teaching process that allows students to participate on a distance learning basis.

The 18 courses on offer from the online CPD include:
estimating for construction work
planning construction projects
historic buildings & conservation

Glasgow Caledonian being one of the biggest universities in Scotland and having 17000 students made it even more of an honour for PoLR to work with such an established and influential institution and even better to bear witness to this project going live.

Glasgow Caledonian University required an e-commerce cart that was easy for them to update and edit. It needed to have the ability to stream video and allow users to view their video purchases/courses for specified periods of time.

Once the website was built the University commissioned an SEO campaign to promote online CPD courses and bring traffic to the site,

Client wanted the website to:

  • sell online CPD courses
  • to sit beside and reflect the University branding
  • to be found by the target audience

  • E-commerce Website
  • Streaming Video
  • Internet marketing Campaign
