Ramblings of a Firefox convertee – Lisa Robin

Is the truth universally acknowledged, that everyone who is any one detests Internet Explorer? Is everyone that is anyone using Firefox or those Apple lovers among us Safari believers. It now seems to me that everyone who uses the internet for their profession are amazed that people are still using Internet Explorer, but then many think; well that is the internet isn’t it? I must admit although I would not profess to be an Internet aficionado I do have a good grasp of the Internet and it’s wily ways. I too have been lured over to Firefox and it’s hundreds of add-ons and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and have been using it almost exclusively over the past week or so.

I wonder if the reason that some Internet users dislike Internet explorer so much is because it is the brainchild of the massively wealthy Bill Gates and his monopolistic organisation Microsoft. Is this the beginnings of a consumer rights movement? Are we getting fed up of the Microsoft monster and preferring to support the smaller companies in the attempt to introduce some fairness into the world of internet operating systems and browsers. I hope so. Or is it just because Internet Explorer can be slow, clumsy and inefficient.

“ I’m sorry Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close…”
“Internet Explorer is not responding, send Microsoft an error report?”

Now who hasn’t fallen foul to the inadequacies of IE? So how am I getting on with my using of Firefox? Well to tell you the truth very well, Firefox has a lot of add ons that you can use to personalise your browser and to enable you to have a more efficient Internet experience. So far I have downloaded the coloured tabs add on, very productive and pretty. Also, Foxy Tunes which lets you configure to whichever media player you are using and listen while you browse by controlling it from your toolbar. Firefox also gives you an option to save the tabs you were browsing in when you shut down, which is useful is you use the same pages every day. Now I have just started using Firefox and I am still discovering all the different add-ons that I will use. I am not saying you should stop using IE right now if you like it and it works for you then great, but there are other options out there that may work out better for you, so give it a try!

  1. Firefox isn’t without its flaws but I do now use it pretty much exclusively. The Add-Ons make it so much quicker to get things done.
