So today and tomorrow are the days when Royal Mail have gone on strike (one of the many times but particularly important due to the time of year).
There have been several reports/rumours of some of the larger stores such as Amazon potentially looking elsewhere. The other morning I heard an interview with a woman running a small e-commerce shop who was concerned the strikes would be enough to make or break her over the run up to Christmas.
So what can you do, as either an online retailer or just Joe Bloggs who just wants to post a letter?
I personally think that with the technology available today, sending by snail-mail could quickly become the least preferred option.
So imagine this, Christmas is coming and you need to send gifts and greetings outwith your festive travelling distances. What can you do to ensure you are not affected by the strikes that, lets face it, could happen time and time again?
Think outside the postage box
Can’t send a gift via email? Think again…look for shops that offer the purchasing and emailing of gift vouchers that way you can get a gift to your recipient and they can choose something themselves – getting it there on time and making sure it’s perfect too!
Cards don’t have to be cards
I’m sure we’ve all been sent e-cards in the past, probably so frequently that you now class them as spam? Why not spend the time composing a decent catch up email and attaching a few photos instead – you’re more than likely to say more than in a card and you can always copy and paste to save time!
It’s an obvious one but we send all invoices and correspondence via e-mail. Try asking your suppliers to do the same (online mobile bills, online bank statements etc) – it’s faster and more eco-friendly to-boot.
Bill Paying – Go Online
Whether you run an online buisness or not, the lack of post could affect your bill paying (either to or from you). If you are nto already you could get set up with digital banking and start paying through this instead. It’s easy, fast and there’s no guessing and praying that the payment will arrive!
Alternative Postage Methods
Why not take lead from the Scottish Government and source an alternative to Royal Mail? Family all in one place? Then shove everything in one package, ship it down and let someone else hand everything out for you!
Cards don’t move – these ones do!
Along the same theme as before but way more amusing. Put yourself in an e-greeting with JibJab and send that instead!
