The true value of good design to your business

The true value of good design to your business

PoLR are always interested to hear of any research that independently shows the importance of design or internet marketing and any facts that can back up what we do!

You can imagine our delight at reading a recent report from the design council that showed 30% of businesses now see design as integral to their companies’ success, an increase from 15% from three years previously.

The same report shows that 54% of UK businesses are planning on using design to increase their exposure and sales during the current economic climate. This coupled with an older report from the design council which states that every £100 a business spends on design increases turnover by £225 and you can start to see why businesses are believing they can help themselves by designing their way through the recession.

There are plenty articles regarding advertising during a recession that advises halting advertising at these times could have serious negative impact to a businesses survival post-recession and it would appear that many businesses are now embracing the selling power of good old fashioned quality design too.

Rethinking your design during a recession shows your customers and competitors that you are developing your brand and not standing still regardless of the economic climate. Just like those who continue to advertise during a downturn, it helps to put your company in a good position and potentially ahead of the competition when the storm is over.

PoLR have a plethora of ideas for revamping your corporate identity, website design / redesign or promoting your company online during these harder times. With our help your company could be in its best possible position for when we are in happier climes.

GTwestival Logo Creation

GTwestival Logo Creation

GTwestival Logo Creation
When @thirdsectorlab Tweeted about needing a logo designed for the Glasgow Twestival we didn’t hesitate in volunteering to help out. We were chosen to create the logo and so set to task coming up with ideas that really said ‘Glasgow’.

Anyone who live in Glasgow (and many that don’t) will be all too aware of the GoMA statue with the perpetual traffic cone ‘hat’ and so we thought this was a great way to get a little Glasgow into the design without the cheesy SECC outline! We did consider a bottle of Buckfast for a time but thought it probably wasn’t putting out the right vibes.

Anyway, we were very happy with the finished logo and look forward to the night.

** Update **

The night was a great success and really did Glasgow proud by raising £3675 for No Strings Attached Scotland.

PSYBT Regional Business Award – Glasgow

PSYBT Regional Business Award – Glasgow

On Thursday 3rd September 2009, PoLR Ltd made it to the final of the PSYBT Regional Business Award (Glasgow region) and finished as very respectable Runners Up!

We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to the Winners: Tom Lauckner and John Moore of www.laucknerandmoore.com who won the award thanks to their popular and thriving sandwich shop ‘Piece’ located at 1056 Argyle Street.

The first prize was sponsored by D8 Design Consultants the runner up prize sponsored by Glasgow City Council. The event was  held at the CCA (the Centre for Contemporary Arts) in Glasgow and was attended by many PSYBT representatives, volunteers and up-and-coming new businesses.

Sadly, Lynne Foster (Co-Founder of PoLR) had a long standing holiday to the USA booked and couldn’t be at the event to encourage me to behave myself. With John Moore (the other half of Lauckner and Moore) having work commitments at Piece to attend to (although he did make it later on in the day), it was left to myself and Tom to field the questions at the Q&A section of the awards. This went reasonably well, even though Tom had just came off a flight from Canada and we had previously dared each other to attempt to include as many song titles as possible in any answers we gave whilst on stage (we chickened out).

All in all, the day went brilliantly and it was great to see the new entrepreneurs at the event with their business ideas and innovative products. As well as representatives from Business Gateway, Regeneration Agencies in Glasgow and the Council.

We’re extremely proud to have been recognised as runners up in the Business Award for the Glasgow region and all the support and guidance given to us by the PSYBT in starting up and the aftercare.

Future of Web Design Tour 09

Future of Web Design Tour 09

Future of Web Design Tour 09It’s been a busy and conference filled few weeks for PoLR what with Think Visibility and now the FOWD tour but well worth the long drives and early mornings to hear from some of the experts in web design and SEO.

The FOWD tour was fantastic for the design team to get along to as not only were there some great presentations (listed below) but there was a 1/2 hour speed networking session where we had the chance to meet other attendees whom we might never have got chatting to otherwise. I thought the speed networking was an excellent addition to an event like this as it’s so easy to just stick with who you arrived with at these events!
