E-commerce Survey – Internet Usage

Being able to find out what people are generally using the Internet for is an invaluable resource for PoLR. It allows us Internet Marketers to analyse the data and use it to our advantage when marketing your website online. For example, to tailor your products and services to reach your specific target demographic in a more imaginative or round-about way. Take this for an example, if 73% of people are using social networking websites, then this could be a great avenue for advertising your online shop. Even better if your shops products are aimed at the largest demographic of social networking site users (currently 25-34 year olds).

Our survey results demonstrated that the most common Internet activity among our participants was accessing email at 100%, which was reasonably predictable.  This was closely followed by shopping online at 90% – which is a pretty powerful majority of Internet users.

Online gaming was one of the lesser uses at only 27% which was made up of just 18% female users to 82% of male users. This contradicts the statistics that we used from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) in our ‘Yay for ladies-what-surf’ post. Well, we do like to be controversial…

Funnily enough, only 50% of students admitted to using the Internet for ‘Education & Training’ while 75% utilised it for ‘Buying Online’ and ‘Social Networking’ and 100% for ‘Amusement’ – surely that can’t be right..? “Eee, it weren’t like that when I were a student!”

    Hi Fuman

Thank you for your comment, the article actually states that 100% of student used it for ‘Amusement’ – the graph is a graphical representation of all the results not just the students.

Nice choice of language though from yourself.
